Map User Documents and Department Shares on a Classroom Computer

When acceding user documents or departmental share from a lab or classroom computer. 

 

IMPORTANT:  Documents and Shares Drives must be disconnected manually to ENSURE YOUR FILES REMAIN PRIVATE.  Failure to DISCONNECT OR RESTART will leave full access to your files for anyone using the computer for the remainder of the day.  

Connection to User Documents 

  1. From the desktop, Right Click on "Computer" or "This PC" icon in the upper left corner and select "Map Network Drive..."
  2. In the "Folder:" Field, type the path below replacing USERNAME for your UNCA username.

    \\uncanet.unca.edu\users\home\USERNAME\documents

  3. Check the box beside "Connect using different credentials" and press "Finish"
  4. Enter your UNCA username and password into the prompt that appears.  Your documents folder should appear.
  5. When finished with the drive Disconnect or Restart the computer
    1. To disconnect: 
      1. From the desktop, double click on "Computer" or "This PC" icon in the upper left corner to open Explorer
      2. Find your mapped drive under "Network Locations" and right click the icon
      3. Select "Disconnect" from the context menu



Connection to Departmental Share

 

  1. From the desktop, Right Click on "Computer" or "This PC" icon in the upper left corner and select "Map Network Drive..."
  2. In the "Folder:" Field, type the path below:

    \\uncanet.unca.edu\shared
     

  3. Check the box beside "Connect using different credentials" and press "Finish"
  4. Enter your UNCA username and password into the prompt that appears.  Any departmental shares you have access to should appear.
     
  5. When finished with the drive Disconnect or Restart the computer
    1. To disconnect: 
      1. From the desktop, double click on "Computer" or "This PC" icon in the upper left corner to open Explorer
      2. Find your mapped drive under "Network Locations" and right click the icon
      3. Select "Disconnect" from the context menu
