Migration Overview

During your transition you will be entitled to Zoom Phone Service in which you will be supplied a temporary number. This number is fully functional and can be used to test and verify prior to migrating your official campus number. ITS will notify users in advance to provide important dates and necessray actions to take. Upon completion, this finalizes your migration and ready to take advantage of your new phone service. Your existing Cisco phone will no longer operate at this time.

Your campus phone will operate in the cloud allowing easy access while working on a university laptop , moving around campus, or remotely without the need for VPN. Traditional features, like voicemail and call forwarding are available and self-managed along with new featues like SMS and your own personal zoom room. Additionally, the Zoom app is fully supported on Android and iOS devices, allowing users to access their zoom services from a personal device if desired.

Why?

The existing unversity phone system operates on software and hardware are either approaching or surpassed their support lifecycles. Additionally, the technology and contract with our current vendor, AT&T, plans to change in 2026 with drastic price changes on our current offerings. ITS reviewed several solutions and identified Zoom as the best candiate for features, pricing, and its current footprint on campus with ciriculum delivery.

When?

ITS has been trialing Zoom phones since mid-April to help define global settings and integrations to maximize value for the campus. In mid July, the campus will begin transitioning our existing phone numbers from our current carrier, AT&T, to Zoom. This process will last into the Fall and Winter of 2025 until all existing digital phone lines are successfully migrated.

What action do I take?

When notified, ensure you can login to the Zoom app. A phone tab should be present with a temporary number. This number can be used, if desired, in the time prior to your campus phone number being successfully ported. During this time period your existing phone will function normally.

ITS will notify users of their port day and time prior with instructons on additional actions and how to engage for support if necessary.
