About macOS Catalina

macOS Catalina(version 10.15) was released by Apple on October 7th, 2019.

ITS recommends upgrading to macOS Big Sur instead of macOS Catalina, but continues to support macOS Catalina.

ITS supports macOS Catalina as the preferred operating system for campus Mac computers. All previous operating systems (macOS 10.14 and below) are considered insecure and are not supported by ITS.

How to Upgrade

macOS Catalina is available in Self Service. Simply click "Upgrade" below "Upgrade to macOS Catalina" to begin.

If you're reading this page on your university Mac, click this button to automatically open Self Service and begin the upgrade:

Known Issues

  • Catalina does not support 32-bit applications.
  • Adobe Creative Suite CS6 and below may not function correctly. You will need to update to an Adobe CC subscription for 100% compatibility.

ITS has tested common software and business processes with macOS Catalina. However, ITS does not guarantee functionality as all use cases cannot be tested. If you experience a problem, please contact the ITS Service Desk.
