About Gatekeeper

Some files and applications downloaded from the Internet can adversely affect your Mac. Gatekeeper is a macOS security feature enabled on all campus faculty and staff Macs that helps protect your Mac from potentially malicious programs.

Gatekeeper supplements other security features and cannot be globally disabled on UNC Asheville Mac computers.

If you attempt to open a potentially unsafe app, you may receive the following message:

"App name" can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer

If you need to open an app from an unidentified developer, please contact ITS.

Contact the ITS Service Desk by sending an email to helpdesk@unca.edu or calling 828-251-6445. The IT Service Desk Self-Service Portal is also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Self-Service portal allows you to request assistance from ITS using a simple web form.
